Light in the Darkness Conference 17th May 2019

Light in the Darkness a new social enterprise project headed up by Beatrice Guessie, supporting women who have faced extreme set backs and trauma to have their voices heard.

This conference aims to help the legal profession, criminal justice system, immigration, health and social care sectors to save lives, save money and be better equipped to support vulnerable women including asylum seekers and single mums, who have been through trauma and need help to find their best routes forward for survival and routes to a well and positive future. People will gain insights, personal and professional development, connections and key learning on methods for good practice – led by women who are experts by experience.

1.00pm “My Story” – Beatrice to speak from the heart about her journey, delivering some key messages to attendees.

1.45pm - 2.10pm Break

2.10pm “I am not alone – my story is not unique” A panel or series of 3-4 other women will speak about their experiences. Case studies will include women affected by themes including sexual abuse, asylum system, living with mental health issues, balancing child and mother protection.

3.30pm What does good support and intervention for women in these situations with multiple complex needs look like? A panel of professionalsin in legal, health, community, criminal justice and social work share their observations, challenges and suggestions for good practice and changes needed.

TRAVELLING TO THE VENUE -Levenshulme Inspire Centre is a social enterprise venue in the heart of a diverse community. It is 5 minutes walk from Levenshulme Station which is easily accessible from main trainlines -one stop from Manchester Piccadilly or Stockport station.

There is a bus stop conveniently located outside the building which is served by the 192, 168 and 197 buses. There is also free parking on surrounding side streets.
